The new law "On Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons" will enter into force in Georgia on September 1, said the head of the consular department of the Foreign Ministry Giorgi Tabatadze to reporters on Friday, July 25.

"On September 1, come into force new regulations that apply to all foreigners - citizens of countries with which Georgia has both a visa-free and visa. Is developed a unified system of stay in Georgia," - said Tabatadze.

For countries which visa requirements are spread, Georgia will issue multiple-entry visas valid for 180 days, with the right to stay in the country 90 days in total during this period. The same principle, according Tabatadze is valid in the Schengen area.
Foreigners wishing to come to Georgia to study, work or family reunion will have to obtain the appropriate visa for the right to stay for a longer period in the Georgian Embassy in the country of residence. Simultaneously will operate practice of issuing residence permits.

In the case of a visa-free regime that operates in Georgia for European countries, NATO member countries and the CIS, as well as countries that are "important partners of Georgia and which bilateral or multilateral agreements are formalized", the citizens of these countries will be allowed to stay in Georgia without visas in total of 90 days during six months.

To date undercurrent law, the maximum period of stay in Georgia for foreign citizens without a visa is 360 days. In the near future the Georgian Foreign Ministry promises to publish lists of countries with which the existing visa and visa-free regimes.

"The decision of the state of Georgia to adjust and make migration policies more effective - is not directed against any state. That is, it is a common approach to all foreign nationals ... A new approach serves to improve migration policy, the unimpeded management of migratory flows", - said Tabatadze.

Meeting devoted to the subject with representatives of accredited diplomatic corps and international organizations took place on Friday in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

"We have provided information to the diplomatic corps, so that they become familiar with it the relevant departments of their countries and learned about it their citizens", - said after meeting Tabatadze.
